Working with Events in Workflows

The Job Call overlay lets you add Raise Events and Wait Events to a given Job Call. This topic explains how RunMyJobs makes it easy to determine which Jobs are raising and waiting for Events.

Once you have added an Event to a Job Call, you can view that Event in the Workflow diagram by turning on the View Details switch. Raise Events display to the right of each Job Call, and Wait Events display to the left of the Job Call.

Note: A Wait Event associated with a Job Call displays this way only if that Event is raised by another Job or Job Call.

The diagram above uses an Event named TDA_Event.

  1. The View Details switch lets you see Events in the Workflow Editor.

  2. This button lets you show and hide other Job Definitions and Job Calls that use the Event.

  3. This box shows that TDA_Event is a Wait Event for another Job Call in this Workflow.

    • The name on the left shows that this Job Call raises TDA_Event. If you click this Event name, information about TDA_Event displays in a new tab.

    • The link on the right tells you that TDA_Event is a Wait Event for the System_Sleep Job Call in Step 2. If you click the link, the screen scrolls to that Job Call.
  4. This box shows that TDA_Event is also a Wait Event for other Job Calls outside of this Workflow. If you hover over the right side of this box, a tooltip displays the full path to the Job Definition or Job Call that waits for the Event, and a button displays. Click to open the Job Definition or Workflow Definition.
