Definition Types

A Definition Type (Configuration > Definition Types) is a description of an activity that can be performed by a Process Server Service. There are several different types of Definition Type.

  • Platform Agent Definition Types define activities that are specific to Platform Agents. For example, the CMD Definition Type lets a Process Definition run command shell scripts on Windows computers. Platform Agent Definition Types are built into RunMyJobs.

  • Platform-specific Definition Types define activities that are specific to a single platform. For example, the OracleJob Definition Type lets a Process Definition run a process in an Oracle instance. Platform-specific Definition Types are built into RunMyJobs.

  • Extension-specific Definition Types are used by Extensions. For example, the Azure Synapse Connector lets you run Azure Synapse pipelines in the cloud. Connector-specific Definition Types are installed by the Catalog when their corresponding Extension is installed.

Note: Definition Types cannot be edited.

Definition Types show up in three places in the RunMyJobs user interface.

  • You can view all Definition Types by navigating to Configuration > Definition Types. Details about each Definition Type display in the Detail View.

  • When you create a Process Definition, you can choose an applicable Definition Type from the Script Type dropdown list.

  • When you create a Process Server, you can check and uncheck Definition Types that are associated with that Process Server's Services.

Note: Some job definitions are part of a module and require a specific license, please check the License section for more information.
